FCC Construction assisted Kent Homes in demonstrating that modular wood frame construction has economical applications in the area of commercial office construction. The project began in September of 2003 with the mass excavation and construction of the building foundation. As the foundation was being poured, 18 wood framed modules were being prefabricated at the Kent Homes plant. These modules were pre fitted with electrical conduit, interior partitions, insulation and 80% of the drywall. Within 5 days after starting erection of the modules, FCC had a fully framed structure ready for roofing, exterior masonry and wall finishes. FCC’s design team broke new ground by engineering fire separations that would allow the wood frame construction to be connected to a major manufacturing facility. The new facility includes 3 floors and consolidates all of the management and support personnel in one location.
